When a team like Muscle Shoals plays a team like Columbia, the question is not if, it is by how much.

The Trojans topped the Eagles 49-6 in their Class 6A, Region 7 opener.

The loss extends Columbia’s state-worst losing streak to 94 games.

The Trojans tallied five touchdowns on the ground, one through the air and had three interceptions on defense.

Le’shone Tapscott had two rushing touchdowns, with Kieland Jackson, Davian Reynolds and Gage Warren adding one each. Jackson had six carries for 69 yards.

Kade Clemmons connected with Jashad Samples for the Trojans’ only score through the air on the night. Samples had two catches for 110 yards.

Muscle Shoals, now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in region play, will host Decatur (0-3, 0-1) this week.

The Red Raiders fell to the Trojans 42-7 last year, and MSHS has a 10-5 advantage in the all-time head-to-head.

Mars Hill 62, Colbert County 24

Playing in Class 3A, Region 7 comes with a tough schedule, and it doesn’t get much harder than playing the reigning 3A state champion.

Frank Hayes scored a touchdown and had 73 yards on the ground for the Indians, who fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Colbert County will face another tough test this week in Lauderdale County (3-0, 1-0).

The Tigers topped the Indians 21-7 last year, though CCHS has a 40-34-1 advantage in the series.

Colbert Heights 38, Clements 0

The Wildcats earned a shutout victory and improved to 3-0, 1-0 with a win over Clements in the Class 3A, Region 7 opener.

Gavin Caldwell had a big night on the ground for the Wildcats, totaling 130 yards and three touchdowns.

John Ryan Berry and Brock Bradford added a touchdown each.

Kayden Harvey also forced a fumble that Harbor Vess returned for a score.

Mason Bryant tallied two interceptions in the game.

The Wildcats will look to remain undefeated when they host Elkmont (0-3, 0-1) this week.

CHHS started the 2024 season 4-0 before falling in six-straight games, so the team will be looking to not let the same happen this year.

Colbert Heights topped the Red Devils 23-6 last season and have a 17-6 all-time record in the series.

Rogers 47, Sheffield 16

The Bulldogs fell to 1-1 and 0-1 in Class 3A, Region 7 play with a loss to the Pirates in the region opener.

Jaylen Gangar had a 42-yard run for a score, and Bryant Doll connected with Jayden Jones on a touchdown pass of 6 yards.

Sheffield will face a tough test this week in hosting reigning 3A state champ Mars Hill (3-0, 1-0).

The Panthers topped the Bulldogs 62-0 last season and have a 6-3 lead in the head-to-head series.

Waterloo 52, Cherokee 46

The Indians fell in a shootout with the Cougars last week.

Cherokee falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in Class 1A, Region 7 play.

The Indians will travel to play a tough 3-0, 1-0 Addison team.

The Bulldogs topped Cherokee 39-6 last year and hold an 8-0 overall record in the series.
