Creekmore named administrator of year at ACAA Conference
Colbert County Administrator Roger Creekmore came home with some extra hardware after returning from his trip to the annual Association of County Administrators of Alabama Conference in Perdido Beach.
Creekmore was named the 2026 ACAA Administrator of the Year by his peers during the event.
“I was humbled to have even been considered,” Creekmore said. “It’s a wonderful thing to have been selected by folks who know what you are doing. There are 67 county administrators around state, and I’m humbled they would select me. There are some very deserving people in that room.”
Creekmore was previously a county commissioner for eight years before being defeated in an election.
He came back two years later as the county administrator and has held that role since.
“The county administrator is like the CEO of the county,” Creekmore said. “The way the government is set up, the county commission is like a board of directors, and they hire a CEO (administrator), chief financial officer (CFO) and an engineer.”
Creekmore said his typical duties involve making sure various departments like roads and maintenance are running smoothly, making sure county buildings are standing and functional and dealing with any issues that arise from constituents or the commission.
As far as the ACAA Conference award, Creekmore said there is a committee made up of administrators from around the state who select the winner.
Those up for the honor must be nominated by a commissioner or fellow administrator, and the ACAA committee vets letters of recommendation given for prospective candidates.
“I appreciate the award, but it isn’t something I earned on my own,” Creekmore said. “The operation in Colbert County is a team effort. The staff, commissioners and local elected officials are all part of the team. This award is not just for me — it’s for the whole team and what we accomplish.
