Recall LaGrange coming up May 4
Recall LaGrange is set for May 4 at the historic LaGrange College site.
The event offers a day of living history events, Civil War displays and demonstrations, arts and crafts vendors, a blacksmith shop, bake sale, food trucks, musical entertainment and more. This year’s event is the 36th anniversary of Recall LaGrange.
The highlight of the event is the period-correct living history of a Prohibition Era raid on a suspected moonshine still. Visitors can witness a group of lawmen descending on the pioneer village of LaGrange and engaging in a brief skirmish with the locals, scheduled for 2 p.m.
In addition to the living history, the event offers other important historical accounts, Civil War collections, and fun activities for the whole family.
The pioneer and log buildings located in the park will be open for tours, and living history presentations will be ongoing. Visitors can also tour Dawson Distillery, located near the park, during the festival.
The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free; Donations will be accepted at the gate for the upkeep of the historic cemetery and park.
The Stampedes will be performing at 11 a.m.
“We are excited to invite visitors to experience living history and honor the legacy of LaGrange College,” said Louise Lenz, with the LaGrange Living Historical Association. “This event offers a unique opportunity for visitors to step back in time and witness the Prohibition Era raid on a suspected moonshine still.”
Distillery Raid on the Mountain takes place at the LaGrange College site located in northwest Alabama, eight miles southeast of Muscle Shoals, off Highway 157 at 1491 LaGrange College Road, Leighton, Ala.
