New playground equipment installed, train running in Spring Park
Returning Spring Park to its peak condition has been an ongoing effort for the City of Tuscumbia for some time.
Whether it be grass removal from the pond, fixing the waterfall or the pond fountain show, a number of items have had to be addressed.
One such item the city can now mark off its to-do list is installing new playground equipment for young visitors to have fun on.
The new equipment was ready for use in late June, and a number of kids that took part in the city’s inaugural water parade on July 4 got a chance to play on the new feature after the event.
“It’s great to see kids playing in the park,” said Parks and Recreation Director Tammy Holt.
The new equipment cost $134,000 and took four weeks from order to installation.
Holt said the new equipment actually cost the city less than it would have been to renovate the aging playground items previously found in the park.
Another item marked off the to-do list in the park is getting the train up and running again.
The feature was running earlier in the summer, but a derailment from a section of track needed attention before the ride could be opened to the public.
“The train is ready to go,” Holt said. “We ran it after the water parade for free. We will start running it soon.”
