Helen Keller Festival draws bigger crowd in 2026

The 48th annual Helen Keller Festival is in the books, with visitors treated to another year of music and fun.

According to Kevin Johnson, who is among a number of volunteer members of the Helen Keller Festival board, this year’s event brought in almost 5,000 people to Spring Park, which is 700 more than last year.

“I feel like it was a success,” Johnson said. “We had a larger attendance, and it went well. We got a lot of positive feedback about the bands and from the vendors.”

Johnson said the festival board tries to mix local bands like The Midnighters and Moon Tree with larger acts like this year’s headliner Fuel, a popular rock band formed in the ‘90s.

“The local bands were a hit,” Johnson said. “Our headliner Fuel was phenomenal. People really enjoyed their set. I was security during the show, and it was awesome seeing people from the community enjoying the festival. It was packed out. Fuel was very well received.”

The festival volunteers finished cleaning up Spring Park on Monday. Johnson said the board will now take about a week off to recover before planning begins for next year’s event.

“We are trying to make good strides for both next year and to make the 50th anniversary event something to be proud of,” he said. “We moved the street dance to the courthouse lawn, which people seemed to like. It’s a rewarding feeling working with this board and putting on something everyone can enjoy. We hope we made Tuscumbia proud, and we’re looking forward to next year.”
