Belle Mont to host program on Founding Father Patrick Henry
Historic Belle Mont Mansion in Tuscumbia will be hosting a revolutionary program in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
On June 6, Belle Mont will host “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death”: The Life and Legacy of Patrick Henry.
The program will begin at 2 p.m. Admission is $6 per person, and attendees will have the option to do a guided, or self-guided, tour of Belle Mont after the program.
The event is part of America 250, a national commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and our country’s break from British rule.
This program is in partnership with American Village and the Chief Colbert Chapter of the DAR and will feature a Patrick Henry interpreter to give his famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech, which was instrumental in rallying the Virginia Delegation at the Second Virginia Convention to support resistance against British rule.
The speech will be preceded by a program on Patrick Henry’s life, legacy, and connection to Belle Mont by Mindy Bates, DAR Regent to the Chief Colbert Chapter, historian, and Winston descendant.
