Trojans earn 2nd-straight shutout, 5th win
The Muscle Shoals Trojans continued to roll last week with a 42-0 shutout victory over Cullman.
The win put MSHS at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 6A, Region 7.
The Muscle Shoals defense has held back-to-back opponents scoreless and has only given up 19 points in five games for an average of 3.8.
The Trojans have the first of two open weeks this season this week. Muscle Shoals will return to the gridiron on Oct. 3 with a road game at Athens (2-2, 1-1 region).
The Trojans won last year’s matchup 56-42, though the all-time series is tied at 18-18.
Cullman falls to 0-5 for the first time in the program’s history going back to 1915.
The Trojans got on the board against the Bearcats when Christian Pritchard turned a short pass from Kade Clemmons into a 62-yard touchdown after cutting upfield and outracing the defense to the end zone.
The point after by Jorge Garcia sailed through the uprights, and Muscle Shoals led 7-0.
This score would remain until early in the second quarter when a 33-yard pass from Clemmons to Jashad Samples set up a 9-yard run and score by Shone Tapscott.
An interception by Marcus Johnson led to a 19-yard touchdown pass from Clemmons to Pritchard two plays later to make it 21-0.
Davian Reynolds capped a three play, 68-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to extend the Trojans’ lead to 28-0 by halftime.
Late in the third quarter, Cullman held Muscle Shoals to a fourth down and a field goal attempt.
Or so it seemed. Holder Will Vance picked up the snap and took off, outrunning the Bearcat defenders for a 22-yard touchdown.
The last score of the night came by way of a Gage Warren run from 8 yards out with 7:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.
