Muscle Shoals blanks Decatur to remain undefeated
Another week, another dominating defensive performance by the Muscle Shoals Trojans.
MSHS picked up its second Class 6A, Region 7 win of the season with a 66-0 shutout of Decatur on Sept. 12.
Through four games, the Trojans are giving up an average of less than 5 points per game.
Things turned south for the Red Raiders early in the contest, as a fumble on the opening kickoff was recovered by Donterrius Puryear at the Decatur 14-yard line.
Jashad Samples scored on a 4-yard run a few plays later, and the Jorge Garcia point after put Muscle Shoals up 7-0 less than two minutes into the game.
Kade Clemmons scored on a QB keeper at the goal line to make it 14-0 after the PAT with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
Keivay Foster blocked a Red Raider punt that was recovered by Marcus Johnson, and that set up a 5-play, 41-yard drive capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run by Davian Reynolds.
Christian Pritchard intercepted a Decatur pass and returned it the Red Raider 39-yard line, and four plays later Shone Tapscott ran into the end zone from 11 yards out to make it 28-0 Muscle Shoals with 6:07 left in the first half.
Three minutes later, Clemmons connected with Jemarion Draper for a 31-yard touchdown pass, and the next Decatur possession ended with a bad snap on a punt sailing through the back of the end zone for a safety.
The Trojans capped off the big opening half with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Clemmons to Samples, with the point after setting the score at 44-0.
Muscle Shoals would tally 22 more points before the final whistle blew.
The Trojans (4-0, 2-0) will continue region play with a road game at Cullman (0-4, 0-2) this week.
The Bearcats are off to their worst start since the early 1990s and have started 0-4 for the first time since 1945.
Muscle Shoals won the contest 55-27 last year and holds a 13-8 all-time record in the head-to-head.
