John Michael Pounders, 74
John Michael Pounders was born on July 31, 1950, in Sheffield, Colbert County, Alabama, the son of Ray Ofus and Betty (Lawler) Pounders. He passed from this life on February 26, 2025, in Lufkin, Texas having reached the age of 74 years.
He graduated from High School and joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country. He served during the Vietnam war and received the following decorations: the National Defense Service Medal, the Rifle Marksman Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and 2 Purple Heart Medals. He attained the rank of Private First Class (E-2), and his military occupation was as a Rifleman and Proof Director of Small Arms. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves.
John enjoyed retirement and for as long as he was able, he played pool and enjoyed a game of golf. For relaxation, he loved listening to music. He took special joy in watching his grandsons playing football and being a part in their lives. He also enjoyed watching television.
He is survived by one son, John Michael Pounders; two grandsons, Kendal and Kyle Metcalf of Longville, LA; two step-daughters, Kendrea Terrell and husband Barry and Kimberly Roland and husband James Burt; and a special friend, Glenda Stanley of Alabama.
He is predeceased by his parents and one son, David Pounders.
A Military Graveside Service will be held in the VA Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, in Houston, Texas, 77038, on Thursday, March 6th, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow.

Annie Louise Smallwood, 88, Tuscumbia, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025. Visitation will be Thursday, March 6, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Friday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Ricky Zahnd officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Missionary Baptist Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Louise was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and a retired certified nursing assistant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae and Roy Lee Mitchell.
Louise is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, James “Buddy” Smallwood; children, Patsy Carmack (Dennis), Pam McCullough, Paula Dobbs (Clark), Phillip Smallwood (Beverly), Debbie Howard (Donnie); brother, O’Neal Mitchell (Debbie); sisters, Eulean Fuller and Emma Jean McFall; grandchildren, Kyla Preciado (Rapheal), Matt Carmack (Leah), Suzan Danials (James), Jessica Childers (Shorty), Ashton Sims (Tyler), John Dobbs, Koby Dobbs (Kiana), Courtney Daniel (Josh), and Jordan Elkins (Mark); great-grandchildren, Caleb Sibley, Kailey Fleming (Dalton), Kaiden Preciado, Harper Carmack, C. J. Russell, 88
Beatrice Byrd Parker Russell of Tuscumbia, Alabama, went to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She was 88 years old.
She is survived by her son, Donald R. Parker, and daughter-in-law, Alana Johnson Parker, of Sheffield, Alabama; her granddaughter, Emily Mothershed Dread (Jalen) of Spring Hill, Tennessee; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Beatrice was the daughter of James Rowland Byrd and Elvy Alice Sparks of Tuscumbia, Alabama. The youngest of five children, she was raised on the family farm in the rural community of Underwood Mountain in Colbert County. She married Dewey Preston Parker in November 1951. Beatrice built a life rooted in family and community. Her greatest joy was being mother to her only child, Don.
After retiring in the early 1980s, Beatrice devoted herself to genealogy, passionately researching and documenting the histories of several hundred families across Colbert, Franklin, and surrounding counties. Her work has left a lasting legacy for generations to come.
A graveside service will be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens in Russellville, AL on Thursday, March 6, at 11:00 a.m. Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia will be directing.

Nichols, 68
Margaret Goodman Nichols, 68, Russellville, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Visitation will be Sunday, March 9, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Greg Beasley officiating. Interment will be in Hyde Cemetery, Russellville.
Margaret was a longtime resident of Russellville where she retired as a bus driver for the Russellville School System. She was member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. Margaret enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Fielder Goodman; mother, Alma Lucille Powell Goodman; brothers, Eugene Goodman and Dennis Hemen; sister, Kathy Hester; and husband, Doug NIchols.
Margaret is survived by her son, Gene Tollison, Jr. (Kristie); sisters, Phyllis Elaine Hemen and Denise Hemen; grandchildren, Ryan Tollison and Mary Tollison; best friends, Bridgett Streetman and Marie Wright; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Austin Wayne Grissom, 40
Austin Wayne Grissom, 40, of Sheffield passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, following an eighteen-month battle with cancer. He was an Army veteran, an Emergency Medical Technician, and served a tour of duty in Afghanistan as a Medic. While in the Army he was stationed in Anchorage, AK, where he and Sarah were married. He loved to cook for his family, friends, and co-workers. Austin loved children and serving others in need. He and Sarah fostered two children before he became ill.
He was a graduate of the University of Alabama – Huntsville with a degree in biology. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Florence, and an employee of Ford Concrete Construction.
Austin was predeceased by his father, Eddie Wayne Grissom. Survivors include his wife of fourteen years, Sarah Kimbrough Grissom; daughter, Riley Elise; mother, Janna Miller; sisters, Amber Holt (Chad) and Crystal Montreuil (Brandon); brother Clint Grissom (Kailey); grandparents, Russell and Barbara Romans; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield, with Rodney Shewbart officiating.

Margaret Conley, 86, of Sheffield, passed away on Thursday, March 6th, 2025. Visitation will be Monday, March 10, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with David Conley officiating. Interment will be in Barton Cemetery, Cherokee.
Margaret spent her life caring for her family and taking care of the elderly as a nurse’s aide. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Effie George; husband, Harold Conley; stepdaughter, Teresa Booth; son, Mark Conley; sister, Alice Wallace; and brothers, Mitchell and Larry George.
She is survived by her children, Billy Conley, Pamela Conley, David Conley (Debra), Dale Conley (Cindy), Rita Coker (Wade), Barbara Conley, and daughter-in-law, Diane Conley; sister, Marilyn Goss (Glenn); brother, Michael George; grandchildren, Michael Conley (Tasha), Bradley Conley (Kristen), and Kayla Lewis (Logan); and great-grandchildren, Madison Conley, Landen Conley, and Jonah Lewis.

Dale Emmitt Cochran, 76, of Cherokee, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 10, at Harris Chapel Cemetery.
Dale was a native of Colbert County and was retired from the State of Alabama. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Emma and Arnold Cochran; brothers, Wayne, Elmo, Arnold Gene, and Fred Cochran; and sister, Bernice Simmons.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Cochran; children, Nikki, Mary, and Jodie Cochran; brother, Jimmy Cochran; sister, Catherine Springer; grandchildren, Haley Cochran, Zoie McDaniel, Alyson and Belle Jones, Zach and Shannon Jones, DJ and Nevaeh Frazier, and Devon and Bailie Cochran; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Matthew Wayne Galloway, 44, of Tuscumbia, AL passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel with a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
He graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in 1998.
He was a member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ. Along with working at Times Daily he also had his own Lawn Care service. Matthew loved going to Nascar races and watching wrestling. He loved his family and especially when they had get togethers.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Galloway; parents, Gary and Mitzi Galloway; sister, Stacey Reid (Jamie); stepchildren, Laura Beth Richards and Will Richards; in-laws, Phil and Donna Wright; niece, Hailee Card (Travis); numerous aunts and uncles alone with cousins; special pet, Bellarue; and a very special friend, Jason Kerstiens.
Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Conrad and Myrtle Hester and Robert and Virgie Galloway.

A formidable matriarch with a heart of gold. She was known for her unwavering loyalty, sharp wit, and a presence that commanded respect. She left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the stories of her family and the vibrant spirit she carried throughout her life.

Henry was a veteran of the US Air Force and a pilot for American Airlines. He was a member of AARP, the American Legion, and the American Airlines Pilots Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. and Melba Culberson.

Janita was a registered nurse for forty-one years, working first at Humana Hospital, then at ECM Hospital, and finally at Helen Keller Hospital during that time. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Triplett Holiday.
Janita is survived by her daughter, Raven Holiday; father, James Holiday, Sr.; brothers, James L Holiday, II (Cherry), Tyler B. Holiday, and Todd S. Holiday; sister, Angela R. Holiday; and grandchildren, Brylon Holiday, Rio Leslie Hobbs, and Milani Leslie Hobbs.
