High school rodeo event coming to Longhorn R Arena
A night of “action and good food” is in store for rodeo fans in The Shoals area.
The Tennessee High School Rodeo Association is hosting an event at Longhorn R Arena in Tuscumbia on March 1 at 7 p.m.
Competitors from across the state of Tennessee and Northwest Alabama will compete in events like bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping and barrel racing.
According to Jamie Hall, who works with the organization, this event will mark the eighth weekend of competition for the high school competitors.
They will participate in two more rodeos before the state competition is held in Martin, Tennessee, May 30-June 1.
The top four competitors in each event will move on to the national competition to be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming, in July.
“There will be competitors there from all 50 states, and even New Zealand and Australia,” Hall said.
As far as the March 1 event goes, tickets are $15 each for adults and $10 for children ages 5-12.
Gates open at 6 p.m. The arena is located at 2125 Three Mile Lane.
“We will have around 100 participants in this qualifier leading up to the state competition,” Hall said. “We will have a concession stand and Sparky’s Sweet Smoke food truck.”
