Teresa Darlene Holmes, 56

Teresa Darlene Holmes, 66, of Muscle Shoals, passed away on Saturday, Decem­ber 21, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, December 28, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral ser­vice will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Eddie Osborn offici­ating. Interment will be in Shaw Cemetery, Leighton.

Teresa attended Nitrate City Community Church and was a faithful believer in Christ. She graduated from Colbert County High School with the class of 1976. Tere­sa worked as an RN at Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, for thirty-five years. She enjoyed music and loved spending time with family and watching her grandchil­dren play sports. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Junior and Mary Elizabeth Nichols; and brother, Marion Nichols.

Teresa is survived by her son, Justin Holmes (Am­ber); brother, Wayne Nich­ols (Tootie); grandchildren, Colt and Leyton Holmes; companion, Stanley Harris; Stanley’s daughter, Mar­low Johnson, whom she loved as her own; and sev­eral nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Brady Hughes, Tanner Ellett, Jacob McGregor, Eric Nichols, Stephen Nichols, and Cole Nichols. Colt Holmes will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Carol Sue

Painter

Young, 59

Carol Sue Painter Young, 69, of Waterloo, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024. There will be a pri­vate service for the family.

Carol was preceded in death by her son, Will Young; parents, James Rob­ert and Sue Ann Painter; and brother, Randy Painter.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Kenneth Young; children, Michael Young (Brandi) of Big Timber, Montana, and Steven Young (Jaime) of Florence; brother, Ken “Buster” Painter (Vance) of Murfreesboro, Tennes­see; grandchildren, Dakota Hamilton, Matthew Young, Kori Brooke Young, and Karson Young; and special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family expresses spe­cial thanks to the staff at Clearview Cancer Institute for their care and love shown to Carol during her battle.

Lee

Frederick, 57

Lee Frederick, 57, of Tuscumbia, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024. There will be no services at this time.

Lee was a native of Col­bert County and was a roofer working for Babco Roofing and P & G Construction. He was a loving and de­voted father, grandfather, and brother and was a hard worker. Lee loved music and loved to dance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Mar­tha Frederick and brothers, Larry and Kevin Frederick.

He is survived by his daughters, Chasity Fred­erick and Terri Jo Landers (Zackary); brothers, Carl and John Frederick; sis­ter, Norma Ray (Keith); grandchildren, Alexis In­nis, Elleanor Landers, and Estella Landers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Hilda Barnett Keeton, 79

Hilda Barnett Keeton of Florence, was born De­cember 2, 1945, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024. Her service will be Monday, December 30, 2024, at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Morrison Funer­al Home, Tuscumbia with Vaniece Parker officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, EV (Russ) Russell and Dell Polytinsky Russell; grand­son, Nicholas Tackett, and son-in-law, Joey Holder.

Hilda retired from the City of Florence Utilities Department after many years of service. She brought laughter and fun wherever she was. Hilda was a dedi­cated volunteer for PAWS organization. She loved her dogs and her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine “Kathy” Davenport; sons, Robert Gene “Bobby” Tackett Jr. (Caroline Wilhite Jeaney), and Thomas Russell “Russ” Tackett; grandchildren, Jus­tin Holder (Karly), Josh Holder (Rachel), Brandon Murray (Emmy), Landon Tackett, and Maci Tack­ett; great grandchildren, Lily Holder, Owen Hold­er, Ethan Murray, Braelee Murray, Tanner Murray, and Nora McCormick; brother, Tom Russell (Ger­ri); nephews, Tyler Rus­sell (Susette), and Nathan Russell (Eliabeth); Spe­cial friend, Jimmy Hughes and several great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate to your local animal shelter.

Patricia Ann Holt, 83

Patricia Ann Holt, 83, of Muscle Shoals, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024. The family will re­ceive friends for visitation on Thursday, January 2, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Old Brick Presbyterian Church, Muscle Shoals. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon with Reverend Carl Malm officiating. Inter­ment will follow in the ad­joining Old Brick Cemetery.

Patricia was born on March 13, 1941 to the late William and Sallie Ann Os­born. She was a true mate and loving wife to J.C., whom she married on July 1, 1961. Although Patri­cia retired from Robbins Tire and Rubber, she felt much more comfortable proudly wearing the titles of momma, and Nana. Pa­tricia was lovingly devoted to her family, and they in turn were devoted to her.

Patricia was a faithful Christian and served in many capacities at Old Brick Pres­byterian Church, where she was a life-long member. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her servant heart and quiet kindness has left an indelible mark on the lives of many.

In addition to her afore­mentioned parents, Patri­cia was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jor­dan (Brandon) Norris, and great-granddaugh­ter, Marleigh Jo Norris.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 63 years, James C. “J.C.” Holt; chil­dren, Clint Holt (Kelley) and Chet Holt (Annie); granddaughter, Haley Holt; great-grandchildren, Xavi­er McClure, Ember Loza­no, and Evie Lozano; and many nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Clint Holt, Chet Holt, Mike Gargis, Matt Gargis, Robert Austin, and Jerry Walker.

The family grateful­ly acknowledges the care and support from the staff of Compassus Hospice.

Marvin

Nunley, 87

Marvin Nunley, 87, passed away on December 19, 2024, at Hospice Al­liance in Pleasant Prairie, WI. He was born on July 10, 1937, in Colbert County, Alabama, the second child of Bernard and Jewel Nun­ley. After the passing of his older sister Bernice at the age of four, Marvin became the eldest of nine siblings.

At the age of 18, Mar­vin left Alabama for Zion, Illinois, where he began working to support his fam­ily back home. A proud Ma­rine and skilled commercial electrician by trade, Marvin worked for companies such as Fansteel, Johns Manville, and Chrysler. His favorite workplace was Warwick Electronics in Zion, where he met his wife, Judy Mar­tin. They married on July 15, 1967, and shared 57 won­derful years together. They raised two daughters and made their home in Winthrop Harbor for many years until retiring in Maud, Alabama.

Marvin had a lifelong pas­sion for music. He collect­ed violins and guitars and once owned a music store in downtown Zion called “Mu­sic Exchange.” He loved visiting flea markets nearly every Sunday, proudly shar­ing how little he paid for his treasures with family and friends. Marvin was also talented at drawing and in­strument repair and enjoyed reading historical books and listening to Bluegrass music.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Orvil (Bonnie); his sister Barbara Bolton (Ed); and his sister Bernice. Marvin is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Kathy Richards (Terry) and Kristy Peter­son (Shawn); grandchil­dren Dominick, Zachary, Danielle (Matthew), Bai­ley, Sidney, and Grayson; great-granddaughter Lively; siblings Rebecca Weath­erford (Johnnie), Vernon (Ann – deceased), Marcus (Loretta), Baxter (Donna), Mark (Connie), and Ken­ny (Patricia); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marvin will be remem­bered for his sense of humor and passion for music. His legacy will en­dure through the many stories of his generosity.

A visitation for Marvin will be held Friday, Janu­ary 3, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Marsh Funer­al Home, Gurnee, IL with military honors at 4:00 PM.

Carole Joy “CJ” Colonna, 75

Carole Joy “CJ” (Hol­combe) Colonna, 75, of Sheffield, passed away on December 28, 2024.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Janu­ary 2 at Colbert Memorial Chapel in Tuscumbia. Vis­itation will be 9:30-11 a.m. and service will start at 11 a.m. with Brother Mark Mayfield officiating. A graveside service will fol­low at Oakwood Cemetery.

CJ was born on Decem­ber 25, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to Rueben Hol­combe and Phyllis Stuck. She graduated from Central High School in Florence, Alabama. On September 24, 1976, she married Gene Colonna in Florence, Ala­bama. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated small business owner from the late seventies until the ear­ly nineties of the popular Chicago Connection Deli both at Southgate Mall and the English Village location which closed its doors in 1996. CJ was also an enthu­siastic homemaker, devoting much of her time and energy to raising her two children, Micah and Julie. She was a talented seamstress and could often be found work­ing on her latest project in her sewing and craft room.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Gene Colonna, her parents, Rueben Holcombe and Phyllis Sharp; her son, Micah Colonna; grandsons Zeke and Cullen Shultz; and her brothers Dan Hol­combe, Lowell Holcombe, and Hassel Holcombe.

CJ is survived by her daughter, Julie Ann Shultz (Raymond); her grandchil­dren, Joslyn and Kellyn Shultz, her siblings, Ed Hol­combe (Carol) of Florence, Doug Holcombe (Becky) of Olivehill, TN, and David Holt (Lottie) of Mishawaka, IN; and best friend Joyce Montgomery and a host of niece, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Eric Holcombe, Richard Hol­combe, Everett Holcombe, Jeffrey Holcombe, Jim Hol­combe and Raymond Shultz.

The family of CJ Colonna would like to extend their sincere thanks to the phy­sicians and staff of Helen Keller Hospital’s ER, am­bulance service and North Alabama Medical Center’s ER and Critical Care Unit.

Rosa Lee Cassell Patterson, 95

Rosa Lee Cassell Patter­son, age 95, of Tuscumbia passed away December 20, 2024 in Michigan. Visi­tation and services will be held on Monday, Decem­ber 30, 2024, at Williams Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00am un­til 1:00pm, with services to follow at 1:00pm in the chapel with Jeff Cruse offi­ciating. Burial will follow at Tuscumbia Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ron­da (1959), husband, Les­ter (2011), and son-in-law, Donnie Oswalt (2021).

Rosa is survived by her son, Russell (Karla) of Shel­by Twp, MI; son, Raven (Peggy) of Double Springs, AL; and daughter, Renee (late Donnie) Oswalt of Tuscumbia, AL. Grand­children; Kimberly (David) Vaughn, Christopher (Chan­da) Patterson, Michelle Garon, Jeffrey (Nicole) Patterson, Steven Patter­son, Kari (Richard) Barch, Jessica (Valerie) Hawkins. Great-grandchildren; Me­gan Barch, Sydney Garon, Karsten Vaughn, Kaitlyn Garon, Charlotte Barch, Aiden Patterson, Layla Pat­terson, Mackenzie Patterson, Elowyn Barch, Grayson Pat­terson, Richard Barch and a baby girl (Gemma Hawkins) due in the spring of 2025. She is also survived by a sis­ter-in-law, Leona Fountain of Tuscumbia along with many nieces and nephews.

Rosa was born March 9, 1929, to William and Rosa Mary Cassell in Tennessee. She was 95 years, 9 months and 11 days old – living the longest time of anyone in her birth family. She mar­ried Lester Patterson Jan­uary 22, 1948, in Iuka, MS and they had 4 children to­gether. They lived in Tus­cumbia, AL, Southfield and Flint, MI, Elkart, IN before returning to live in Lexington, AL in 1979. In 2022, Rosa moved back to Michigan to live with her son and daughter-in-law.

Rosa enjoyed gardening, sewing, working puzzles, and reading her Bible. She didn’t go to bed without say­ing “Call me if you need me”. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lexing­ton, AL and attended Stoney Church in Washington, MI.

Dervard “Big D” Rikard, 84

Dervard “Big D” Rikard, age 84, of Florence, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, December 21st from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at Williams Funeral Home of Florence. Grave­side service will follow at 1:00 pm at Tri-Cities Me­morial Gardens with Broth­er Austin Johnson offici­ating. The Pallbearers will be Eric Rikard, John Kim­brough, Steve Clark, Mark Willingham, Brian Mc­Manus, and Ken Vanhorn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tra­vis and Annie Landers Ri­kard; sister, Roberta Rikard.

Survivors are his loving wife of 58 years, Rumel Clark Rikard; sons, Paul Kerry Rikard (Debra) and Eric Lee Rikard; grand­children, Salina and Levi; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Big D graduated at Bel­green High School and Freed Hardeman Christian College and was employed and retired with Reynolds Alloys. He was a U.S Navy Veteran, and a member of Florence Boulevard Church of Christ. He was an avid fisherman. A special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann for years of dedicated care.

William

Daly, Jr., 81

Dr. Robert “Bob” Wil­liam Daly, Jr, 81, was born on October 3rd, 1943, in Birmingham (Irondale), Al­abama, and passed away on December 24th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wil­liam Daly and Vena Hol­liman Daly Buchheit, and his sister Mary Daly Herrin.

Dr. Daly is survived by his wife, Adela Joy Daly, his son John Robert Daly (Tam­my), daughters Susanna Car­ol Daly and Iris Vivian Daly, and his stepson Shane Pas­chal. He also leaves behind his grandchildren John Al­exander Daly, Jackson An­thony Daly, Cason Daly Wil­liams, and AnnaCarol Marie Howell, along with many extended family members.

Dr. Daly received his PhD in Botany from Auburn University in 1971. He was a professor of Biology, be­ginning at Athens State Uni­versity and the University of North Alabama, teaching for 44 years and retiring in 2013. He was a passion­ate educator to over 41,000 students and placed high value on being on time and prepared, paying attention, and following instructions. He helped shape the pro­fessions of many medical professionals and educa­tors in the north Alabama area. He loved seeing his former students at appoint­ments and around Florence.

He was a naturalist from a young age and loved be­ing outside in the quiet solitude of the woods and enjoyed time at the beach immensely. He was well known for his hummingbird banding and shared those tiny creatures with many, something they will not soon forget, if ever. He also banded common birds for over 50 years for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior, contributing to tracking their migratory patterns. He spent his time working on his home and land and developed it into a Certified Treasure Forest by the State of Alabama.

He fiercely loved his family and had pride in his Irish heritage. He instilled in his children to use their brains, think for themselves, and gave them the freedom to live their lives. He spent countless hours with his best friend of over 50 years, Re­ece Stewart, hunting, fish­ing, and swapping stories. He loved cats and was known as the cat whisperer. A devoted YMCA member, he enjoyed working out and chatting with his Y buddies on Mon­day, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. He will forever be missed by many, but his leg­acy and imprint will live on.

Visitation will be Monday, December 30, 2024, 2:00 to 4:00 pm with a memorial service at 4:00 pm, at Wil­liams Funeral Home in Flor­ence, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree or flowers, hang a hummingbird or bird feeder, or simply go outside and enjoy nature like Dr. Daly did and think of him.
