Harold Glen Holland, 89

Harold Glen Holland, 89, of Tuscumbia, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024. The family will re­ceive friends for visita­tion on Wednesday, July 3, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscum­bia. The funeral service will immediately fol­low in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Holland Cemetery.

Mr. Holland was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on June 10, 1935, to the late George and Jew­ell Mitchell Holland. He was a welder in the boat manufacturing business. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holland was preced­ed in death by his wife, Gladys Holland; sons, Keith Holland and Terry Holland; brothers, Earl, Deb, and Eugene Hol­land; and sisters, Gwen McBride and Lois Foster.

Survivors include his children, Sandy Willis (Kenneth) and Jeff Hol­land (Tammy); sisters, Dot Winstead, Ann Walk­er, and Wanda Malone; grandchildren, Nick Bevis (Amanda), Daniel Hol­land (Jessica), Ashleigh Rainey (Corey), Lind­sey Bevis (Justin Orick), and Aaron Holland (Eri­ca); and great grandchil­dren, Hailey and Chris­tian Bevis, Kylee and Easton Holland, Jackson and Carter Rainey, Dolly Gladys Bevis, and Riley and Madelyn Holland.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Callie Sue

Howard, 84

Callie Sue Howard, age 84, of Tuscumbia, died Saturday, June 29, 2024. The graveside service will be Wednesday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Guy Cemetery. Bro. Dwight Rivers will officiate.

Mrs. Howard was a retired CNA, having worked many years at various nursing homes taking care of patients for many years. After re­tirement, Mrs. Howard helped provide in-home care for the elderly and infirm. She was a member of Pride Baptist Church, having the distinction of being the longest at­tending member. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Howard; par­ents, Finis and Captolia Byrd Smallwood; grand­son, Brandon Howard; and a number of siblings.

Survivors include her children, Melisa Tubbs and William S. “Sam” Howard; brother, James “Buddy” Smallwood; sis­ter, Evelyn Zills; and the blessings of her life, her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nick Tubbs, Cody How­ard, Dylan Murphy, Mike Smallwood, Jerry How­ard, and Adam Smith.

Sheryl Irons Smith, 55

Sheryl Irons Smith, 55, of Tuscumbia, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. The visitation will be Fri­day, July 5, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry Burns officiat­ing. The interment will be at Shoals Memorial Gardens.

Sheryl was a native of Tuscumbia and a lifetime resident of the Shoals. She was a certified nurs­ing assistant for over 35 years. Sheryl was a lov­ing and devoted moth­er and grandmother and very active in their lives. She was a book enthusiast and loved writing poetry.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her grand­parents, Lemuel and Dorothy Brown; broth­er, Vance Irons; and uncle, Johnny Brown.

She is survived by her son, Matt Smith and wife, Kristine; daughters, Kim­berly Smith, and Haley Smith; mother, Jo Alice Irons; sisters, Lisa Irons, Bridget Irons, and Tina Jones; grandchildren, Khloe Reed, Charlotte Smith, and Liam Clark; aunt, Linda Wilkinson; cousin, Angie Maxwell; nephews, Dyllan Kimbrell and Blake Jones; niece, Holland Emmons and husband, Aaron; lifelong friend, Holly Zaragoza, and many, many more family, friends, and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Evan Fleming, Blake Jones, Scott Emmons, Aaron Emmons, Mike Shaw, and Greg Smith.

The family expresses special thanks to Sheryl’s work family at Florence Nursing and Rehab and Helen Keller Hospital 4th Floor for taking such spe­cial care of their mom.

David Haskle Burns

David Haskle Burns of Maud, Alabama, passed away in his home on June 28, 2024. David was born August 31, 1945 to Vera Pauline Phillips Burns and Louis McKinley Burns of Maud. A Vietnam War veteran, David served his country with honor and courage saving lives as a medic and received nu­merous awards, including the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Army Com­mendation Medal, and the Combat Medical Badge. After his military service, he pursued a distinguished academic career, earning multiple degrees. His inter­est in science and technol­ogy led him to a fulfilling career at NASA, where he made significant con­tributions until he retired. David always liked work­ing with computers, but he suffered severe vision loss from macular degeneration over the last decade that limited him from enjoying some of his most-loved pastimes. David enjoyed music as well and contin­ued to find joy listening to classical, bluegrass, and old-time gospel music.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Vera and Louis), his sister (Sarah Al­majean), and his two broth­ers (Louis Ray and Earl Reece). David loved his siblings deeply. He suffered hardships with the prema­ture losses of some of his closest loved ones, and he often faced challenges re­lating to others. However, his unique sense of humor, exceptional intelligence, and differing perspective enriched the lives of those who knew him. Family gatherings brought David happiness and he loved vis­iting with his cousins, niec­es, nephews, and their chil­dren. He is survived by his two nephews (Ray Burns and Mark Maxwell), seven nieces (Joanne Williams, Fonda Jameson, Cheryl Burkhart, Renee Harlan, Tracy Hatley, Lara Burns, and Cary Lopez), and his sister-in-law (Lana) who will cherish their memories of him. The family extend their gratitude to Lisa Puck­ett for her friendship and support of David, especial­ly as his health declined.

David will be remem­bered for his intelligence and love of learning and his love of his family and home in Maud. His pres­ence will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 10am with visi­tation at 9am at Morrison Funeral Home in Chero­kee. Nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Lorene “Polly” Myrick

Pounders, 94

Lorene “Polly” Myrick Pounders, 94, Tuscumbia, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024. There will be a graveside service at 10:00am in Bar­ton Cemetery on Wednes­day, July 3, 2024 with Brent Logan officiating.

Lorene was a mem­ber of Barton First Bap­tist Church in Cherokee. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Pounders; brothers, How­ard Myrick, George “Doc” Myrick, Woodzie “Whitt” Myrick; sisters, Cora Lee Darby, Lily Robbins, Ann Rutherford, Christine Echols, Cary Hart; and son-in-law, James Logan.

Lorene is survived by her daughter, Janet Lee Pounders Logan; son, Raymond Larry Pounders (Karen); grandchildren, Brent Logan (Missy), Melanie Logan Cosby (Terry), Lauren Pounders Carpenter (Drew), Kary Jackson Borden Pierson (Dan); great-grandchil­dren, Kayla Borden, Jared Borden (*Briley), Madi­son Carpenter, Hallie Lo­gan, Chloe Cosby, Logan Cosby, and Clay Cosby.

Doris Sue

Hayes, 70

Doris Sue Hayes, 70, of Sheffield, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024. Visitation will be Friday, July 5, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Morrison Fu­neral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel. In­terment will be at Tri-Cit­ies Memorial Gardens.

Doris was a native of Muscle Shoals, AL and was a member of St. Jo­seph Catholic Church. She was actively involved with Riverbend Center for Mental Health until her health declined. Doris was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Holden.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Ray Hayes, Jr.; son, Joseph Albert Caldwell; mother, Hazel Holden; brothers, Bobby Holden and David Holden (Wendy); nieces and nephews, David Jr., Clifton, Nathan, Andrew, Lorrie, Vickie, and Bethany.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Rheba Nell Hester Kim­brough, 86, Muscle Shoals, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Visitation will be Sunday, June 30, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Dwight Wil­son officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Memo­rial Gardens, Tuscumbia.

Nell was a member of Crooked Oak Bap­tist Church and a retired social worker with Ala­bama Department of Hu­man Resources. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Daniel Kim­brough; parents, Loy and Velma Hester; brothers, Doyle Hester and J.L. Hes­ter; and sisters, Almaree Byrd and Becky Wright.

Nell is survived by her daughter, Rheba Kim­brough, Sandy Peeples, and Sonya Clark (Heath); grandchildren, Hester Burdett, Jonathon Sparks, Ashley Witt, Mark Alan Peeples, and Joel-David Gilbert; great-grandchil­dren, Mackinze Burdett, Noah Koontz, Hannah Sparks, Madisyn Fuqua, Justis Sparks, Nova Sparks, Adalind Koontz, and Fin­ley Hodges; special friend, Bernice Isom; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jon­athon Sparks, Mark Alan Peeples, Joel-David Gil­bert, Noah Koontz, Ricky Burdett, and Heath Clark.

Sandra Jean Bell, 81

Sandra Jean Bell, 81, Florence, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sandra was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sheffield. She was preced­ed in death by her parents, Arthur and Melrose Dunn.

She is survived by her husband, G. Michael Bell; and daughter, Jenni­fer Bell Kennedy and her husband, Perry Kennedy

Wydell Reed Wehunt, 83, Tuscumbia, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Visitation will be Monday, July 1, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscum­bia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Ian Butler officiating. Interment will be in Oak­wood Cemetery, Sheffield.

Wydell was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Reed; parents, Eva and Roscoe Schultz; and sister, Peggy Lott (Gerald).

She is survived by her children, Cindy Chard (Al), Kim Reed, and Charles Michael Reed, Jr.; brother, Wayne Gorman (Betty); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Hyde, Tony Chard, Jef­frey Sekul, Jerry Lott, Adam Wilbanks, and Thomas Lindsey. Landon Hyde, Asher Hyde, Jase Wilbanks, and Sum­mit Lindsey will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Don Barry Reaves, 77

Don Barry Reaves, 77, Tuscumbia, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024. Visitation will be Friday, June 28, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Morrison Funer­al Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will im­mediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Dennis Willingham and Ed White officiating. In­terment will be in Guy Cemetery, Tuscumbia.

Don was a member of the Church of Christ and a veteran of the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Agnes Reaves; and sister, Kim Reaves.

Don is survived by his brother, Ronnie Reaves; sisters, Renee Reaves and Kathy Reaves Beard, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Izaak Emmons, Jason Reaves, Michael Reaves, Steve Sims, Carl Richards, Chad Moses, and Adam Beard.

Jimmy Dale Poston, 85, Sheffield, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024. Visitation will be Thurs­day, June 27, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscum­bia. The funeral service will be Friday, June 28, in the funeral home chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Terry Horn officiating. Interment will be in Old Bethel Cemetery, Leighton.

Jimmy was a mem­ber of New Life Church of the Nazarene, Shef­field. He was preceded in death by his parents, An­drew and Viola Poston; sisters, Jewel Hallman, Cathaleen Pope, and Bet­ty Jean Porter; and grand­daughter, Desiree Craft.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Dot Fleming Poston; daughters, Con­nie Wester (Lee), Sandra Craft (David), and Debo­rah Green (Otis); brothers, Junior Poston and Ray­mond Poston; ten grand­children; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaugh­ter; one great-great-grand­son on the way; and spe­cial niece Joann Wood.

Brooks, 86

Lloyd D. Brooks, 86, Tuscumbia, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Visitation will be Thurs­day, June 27, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscum­bia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chap­el with Hollis Rutherford officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Memori­al Gardens, Tuscumbia.

Lloyd was a lifelong resi­dent of Colbert County and a member of the Washing­ton Masonic Lodge #36, Tuscumbia. He retired as an operator with USS Ag­richemical in Cherokee. Lloyd was a great father, husband, and an awesome Paw-Paw, and loved his beloved dog, “Buddy”. He was a talented handyman and could fix anything that was broken. Lloyd en­joyed playing music and piddling in the garage. He loved fishing, planting gar­dens, and riding his trac­tor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mary Brooks; broth­ers, Howard, Curtis, Ho­mer, David, and Grover Brooks; and sisters, Evelyn Tubbs and Bertha Mitchell.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of sixty-sev­en years, Doris Brooks; children, Rickey Brooks (Chaun), Donna Kel­ley (Tracy), and Kevin Brooks (Lajuanna); sister, Melvina Willis; grand­children, Christi Hand (Josh), Lyndsey Brooks (Dakota), Lexi Brooks, Chris Brooks (Amanda), Heather Brooks, Michael and Danielle Inman, Chris Vines, and Maya and Mack Stafford; great-grandchil­dren, Chastin, Summer, and Karley Hand, Alyssa, Emma, Aleyah, Sawyer, Huntley, and Lilly Grace Brooks, Milli Fuller, Kar­son Ezekiel, Arya Hea­ton, and Wesley Stafford; great-great-granddaugh­ter, baby Alexandria, due in August; and sever­al nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Inman, Tracy Smith, Josh Hand, Chris Brooks, Braden Thomp­son, and Kenny Brooks.
