Colbert County Republican Women host Moms for Liberty chapter chair

The Colbert County Republican Women’s Club hosted a special guest speaker during its monthly meeting on April 16.

The group welcomed Emily Jones, chair of the Madison chapter of Moms for Liberty.

According to the group’s website, Moms for Liberty is dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government.

Jones said Moms for Liberty was founded by two moms that, as former school board members, witnessed how short-sighted and destructive policies directly hurt children and families. Now, they are using that firsthand knowledge and experience to unite parents who are ready to fight those that stand in the way of liberty.

Jones said her chapter in Madison is currently fighting to keep what they consider inappropriate literature out of school libraries, specifically for those schools attended by their children.

Jones explained to the Colbert County Republican Women she and other members of the group had found a number of books they felt should not be found in school libraries, including ones with explicit sexual content, espousing critical race theory or gender affirming care for minors.

She said books like these had been found in elementary libraries in Madison and other parts of the state/country.

Jones said her child came across a book she and others deemed inappropriate at their school, and upon asking the principal about why the book was there, he said he wasn’t aware.

That’s why Jones said one of the issues her group is working on now is raising awareness for like-minded parents to be on the look out for books in their kids’ school libraries.

According to the Moms for Liberty website, the group seeks to “hold leaders accountable, spread awareness, oppose government overreach, promote liberty, engage on key issues and activate to public service.”

The Colbert County Republican Women’s Club is a charter member of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women, according to the group’s Facebook page.

“Our mission is to bring together patriotic women in our community to fight against the Democrat socialist agenda that is targeting all we hold sacred – from our children to our churches – by promoting Republican conservative social and fiscal values.”

The group meets once a month. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page.
