Agriculture workshop set for Nov. 6 at AMHOF
Residents of The Shoals interested in learning more about agriculture-related topics like gardening, land use and resource management are in luck.
The Alabama A&M University’s Small Farm Research Center, in collaboration with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, is holding an agriculture workshop titled “Learning and Growing With Us” on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame banquet hall, 617 U.S. 72 W.
Marcus Garner, Urban Regional Extension Agent covering home horticulture for Limestone, Madison and Marshall counties, will be speaking about raised bed gardening, plant disease and insect identification in the lawn and garden and soil testing and reporting.
He will cover growing a garden in small spaces and understanding what diseases look like on the farm.
Dr. Colmore Christian, Interim Director of Alabama A&M’s Small Farms Research Center and professor of Forestry and Outreach, will be speaking about the research center’s programs, natural resource planning and consideration of alternative income streams.
According to ACES, the target audience for this program includes home gardeners seeking to enhance their yields and plant health, small and medium-scale farmers looking for sustainable solutions, agricultural students and enthusiasts eager to learn practical skills and anyone that is interested in agriculture, land use and sustainable development.
