Deshler routs West Limestone for another region win
The Deshler Tigers continued their winning ways in the 2025 season by scoring early and often in a 47-14 win over West Limestone on Oct. 17.
The Tigers led 41-7 by halftime and were able to go into cruise control for the final two quarters.
Brady McKinney got Deshler on the board after catching a pass from Price Thornton and juking three defenders for a 10-yard touchdown.
Tripp Brooks put the point after through the uprights and gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest.
A Warner Johnson interception led to a fourth and goal from the 2-yard line for Deshler.
Thornton found Garrett Reid in the corner of the end zone. Reid managed to trap the ball against his helmet to secure the 1-yard touchdown.
A Kendrick Gunn touchdown run and 2-point conversion from Reid to Gunn put Deshler up 22-0 with just over two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
A long touchdown pass from Thornton to Reid was wiped off the board by a penalty, but Thornton then connected with McKinney on a 50-yard bomb for a score.
An attempted drop kick extra point was missed, leaving the score at 28-0.
West Limestone got on the board with a long touchdown pass around the midpoint of the second quarter.
However, a 37-yard touchdown pass from Thornton to Cam Fuller and a 30-yard catch and score from Thornton to Reid left Deshler with a 41-7 advantage by intermission.
Both teams would add one last touchdown to their tallies before the final whistle.
Deshler remains undefeated at 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Class 4A< Region 7 play.
The Tigers, who will return to the postseason this year after falling just short last season, have two more region games left before the playoffs.
Deshler will host East Lawrence on Oct. 23. The Eagles are 1-7 overall after having to relinquish two victories at the beginning of the season due to an ineligible player.
The Tigers topped the Eagles 44-24 last season and have never before lost to ELHS in football (20-0).
After that on Oct. 30 comes the showdown for the region title at West Morgan, who is also 8-0, 6-0.
