Muscle Shoals hands Jasper 1st loss; Week 7 roundup

It was a tale of two halves when the undefeated Muscle Shoals Trojans traveled to face fellow 6-0 Class 6A, Region 7 opponent Jasper on Oct. 10.

The Trojans gave up 15 points in the first half to the Vikings, who were averaging 41 points a game.

Muscle Shoals had only allowed 19 points in the previous five games combined.

However, those 15 would be all Jasper could muster, as the Trojans came alive on both sides of the ball and outscored the Vikings 20-0 in the second half to earn the victory.

Jasper led at halftime 15-14. Shone Tapscott had a 3-yard rushing touchdown in the first half en route to 25 carries for 127 yards.

The Vikings amassed 238 total yards in the first half. In the second? Negative 2.

The Trojans went ahead when Devin Smith pounced on a Jasper fumble in the back of the end zone caused by a bad snap at the goal line.

K.D. Houston also had a fumble recovery for Muscle Shoals.

The Trojans (7-0, 5-0) have an open week this week before traveling to face Hartselle (7-0, 4-0) on Oct. 24.

The annual matchup has decided the region champ for multiple years now, and this will be no exception.

The Muscle Shoals/Hartselle game has become an annual spectacle, and this year’s installment may be one for the ages.

The Trojans just barely edged past the Tigers 29-28 last year, though Hartselle has a 17-13-1 series lead.

Hartselle plays Jasper on the road this week before the big showdown.
