Week 6 high school football roundup

The Colbert County Indians picked up both a region and rivalry win over Colbert Heights by a final of 32-8 last weekend.

Frank Hayes had three touchdowns for the Indians on the night on runs of 38, 35 and 3 yards. He had six total carries for 110 yards.

Sir Miller had 14 rushes for 110 yards and a touchdown on a 4-yard run.

An 18-yard touchdown pass from Sean Blevins to Jayden Hice rounded out the scoring for Colbert County.

John Ryan Berry notched the only score of the night for Colbert Heights on a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Colbert County is now 4-3 overall on the 2025 season and 3-1 in Class 3A, Region 7.

The Indians are well on their way to their 14th-straight playoff appearance, though region games against Clements (3-4, 1-3), Elkmont (1-5, 1-3) and Sheffield (2-4, 0-4) remain.

On paper, these games appear to be three of the easier contests of the year for Colbert County, especially with wins over Lauderdale County and Colbert Heights in the books.

The lone region loss to Mars Hill, the reigning Class 3A state champion, will probably keep CCHS from winning a region title, but a playoff berth is likely.

The Indians topped Clements 46-13 last year and hold a 12-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Colbert Heights (5-2, 3-1) started the season on a five-game win streak but have since fallen in its last two games.

The Wildcats have arguably the hardest portion of their schedule left with games against Rogers (3-3, 2-2), Mars Hill (6-0, 4-0) and Lauderdale County (4-3, 2-2).

CHHS plays at Rogers on Oct. 10, which will likely be a big region game when it comes to the hunt for the postseason.

Colbert Heights is currently third in Class 3A, Region 7. Rogers and Lauderdale County will probably be scrapping with Colbert Heights to decide the third and fourth spots in the region, and with it a playoff berth.

A win over Rogers would go a long way to securing a spot. The Pirates won 42-15 last year.

Sheffield (2-4, 0-4) is coming off a 47-42 loss to Elkmont last week and has a road trip to Lauderdale County this week.

The Tigers topped the Bulldogs 53-20 last year.

Cherokee fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in Class 1A, Region 7 with a 36-12 loss to Phillips last week.

The Indians will host Shoals Christian on Oct. 10. The Flame have won the contest each year since 2019.
