Spann visits Sheffield Public Library

On Tuesday, July 8, the Sheffield Public Library hosted iconic Alabama meteorologist James Spann. The event was open to anyone who wanted to attend. Members of the Library’s Summer Reading Program were front and center, along with children from the Ekklesia Preschool and Child Development Center. Library Director Beth Ridgeway said, “Both children and adults from all over the Shoals showed up.” In his presentation, Spann discussed different types of weather and shared weather safety tips. The children were excited to shout out answers and laugh at Spann’s silly antics.

According to Ridgeway, booking Spann took a while. She reached out to him on Facebook a little more than a year ago. Spann responded said he would love to come for a visit. They planned two events – a weather program for children in July and a more in-depth program for adults in September.

Spann “had a blast” at the library. “It’s always great to see so many children there who really want to learn more about weather and science. You can learn things in the summer even when you are out of school!” Spann said everyone was very kind, and he was grateful for the opportunity.

After the presentation, Spann visited Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Spann said, “The songs recorded there were the soundtrack of my life!  3614 Jackson Highway should be a stop for every Alabamian!”

Come see James Spann at the Sheffield Public Library on Tuesday, September 30 at 10:00 a.m. for an adult weather program. Everyone is welcome.
