Belle Mont to host Burns supper
The History Department at the University of North Alabama, the Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation, and the staff of Belle Mont Mansion are excited to announce a Burns Supper to be held at Belle Mont Mansion on April 5, 2025 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm.
Burns Suppers honor the life, legacy, and poetry of Scottish poet Robert Burns. Traditionally held on January 25th in honor of Robert Burns’s birthday, the celebrations involve food, dancing, bagpipes, and speeches.
The UNA Burns Supper will take place on April 5th to honor both Robert Burns and National Tartan Day, which takes place on April 6th in the U.S. and Canada. National Tartan Day honors the connection between Scotland and North America, as well as the important contributions made by Scottish Americans and Canadians to democracy.
Tickets to the UNA Burns Supper will be $50.00 for one person or $75.00 for a couple. This will include a meal of traditional Scottish foods, Celtic music by the world famous Chambless and Muse, bagpipe music, admission to historic Belle Mont Mansion, a ticket to the 2025 Belle Mont Celtic Fest, Contra dancing, and Scottish Reels which will be called by Mr. Mark Orman, founder of the 1861 school for girls and who has 35 years of experience teaching dances of the 19th century.
The money raised from this event will go towards the students of the University of North Alabama History Department’s Study Abroad Trip to Scotland in the Summer of 2025.
