Animal shelter gets new mural, holiday donations
The Christmas season has come and gone once again, and the Colbert County Animal Shelter was among the organizations benefiting from the holiday spirit.
According to Director Corey Speegle, a number of donations came in to help out the dogs, cats and humans at the shelter.
“We were so amazed and blessed by the generosity of our community,” the shelter said in a social media post.
A number of local businesses, including Barktown of Sheffield, Kibbles and Bone, Walmart in Muscle Shoals, Muddy Paws Pet Salon and Lifesouth, put up Christmas trees with ornaments of available animals and the shelter’s needs.
“It’s a big help,” Speegle said. “Donations like dog food and cleaning supplies, we rely almost 100% on donations for these things, and we can’t do it without the public.”
Earlier in November, muralist Hannah Legg put a fresh coat of paint on the front of the shelter. She painted a mural depicting several animals representing available pets at the shelter.
“We are very excited about the new mural,” Speegle said. “It puts a fresh new look on the building, and hopefully it will help draw more people to the shelter.”
