Sherman Gene Hendrix, 66
Sherman Gene Hendrix, 66, Muscle Shoals, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. A graveside service will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery, Cherokee, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Rod Stansky officiating.
Sherman was a member of the Methodist church. He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Hendrix; and sisters, Pamela Hart and Teresa Saran.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Thornburg; stepfather, Neil Thornburg; and sister, Cyndy Meckl (Dennis).
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
James Timothy Borden, 66
James Timothy Borden, age 66, of Tuscumbia, died Saturday, August 31, 2024. The funeral service will be Monday, September 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Westside Baptist Church, with Jeremy Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery.
A native of Colbert County, Mr. Borden was born on March 25, 1958, to the late James Woodrow and Vera Schultz Borden. He was a computer operator in the banking industry and a member of Westside Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Borden was also preceded in death by his sister, Gail Hand.
Survivors include his siblings, Laura Ezekiel (Bobby), Ronnie Borden (Donna), and Sandra Borden, and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Harrison, Ethan Harrison, Jonathan Harrison, Jacob Fountain, Jackson Fountain, and Justin Fountain. Honorary pallbearer is Levi Hill.
Frances Coburn, 82
Frances Coburn, 82, of Tuscumbia, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Jeremy Sanderson officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Frances was a member of Westside Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved working with her Lighthouse kids. She also loved to travel. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Coburn; father, Monroe Lindley; mother, Lois Lindley; brother, Bubba Baugher; and sisters, Martha Goodge, Sarah Brown, and Naomi Baugher.
She is survived by her children, Lorie Hovater (Hollis) and Steve Coburn (Tamela); brother, Bill Baugher (Connie); grandchildren, Matt Hovater (Caity), Lindsey Cole (Jeffrey), Holley Carruth (Keith), Ryan Coburn, Clay Coburn (Kayley), and Zack Coburn (Andrea); great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Adalynn Hovater, Alayna, Nate, Micah, and Tripp Cole, Ivey Green, Brodyn and Braelynn Coburn, Oakleigh and Kason Coburn, and Saygen Sanderson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Matt Hovater, Ryan Coburn, Clay Coburn, Zack Coburn, Jeffrey Cole, and Stanley Barton her grandsons.

David William Maxwell, 47
David William Maxwell, 47, of Cherokee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 30, 2024. David suffered from a long term seizure disorder and passed away during a seizure event. Visitation will be Monday, September 2, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Cherokee with a memorial service following in the funeral home chapel. Brother Steve Slaton will officiate the service. A private graveside will be held at a later date.
David was a graduate of the Cherokee High School class of 1995 and a member of First Baptist Church in Cherokee. He was retired from the Tissue Plant.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Maxwell, ; grandmothers, Nell Williams and Katie Maxwell; grandfather, Leroy “Simp” Maxwell; and a baby brother.
David is survived by his daughters, Ashlynn Maxwell and Sydney Maxwell; grandson, Blake; mother, Donna Jo Maxwell; sister, Deanna Terry (Lee); brother, Daniel Maxwell (Tosha); his precious nieces, Karli, Evelyn, and Lydia Maxwell; and grandfather, Bobby Williams.

Benny Ray Pounders, 66, of Tuscumbia, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Cherokee. The funeral will immediately follow with Paul Haley officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Springs Cemetery.
Benny was preceded in death by his father, Billy Fountain; and brothers, Ricky, Jackie, and Steve Pounders. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Plunkett; daughter, Chasity Pounders (Scotty); mother, Jody Fountain; and brothers, Larry Pounders, and Gary Pounders.
Benny worked at Rogers Group for 47 years as a frontend loader. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Blasingame, 74
Susan R. Blasingame, 74, of Muscle Shoals passed from this life surrounded by loved ones on August 29, 2024. Her visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia with Shane Swinney officiating. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Leighton.
Susan was born in Colbert County to James and Stella Lyell. She graduated from Colbert County High School in 1968. In 1969, she met and married her husband now of 55 years, Ben Blasingame. Susan worked at Rogers Department Store for 40 years while raising her three beloved children. She took great pride in raising them while wearing many hats. She was director and singer in the Sweet Adelines, a seamstress, and the Muscle Shoals Band Boosters. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Stella Lyell.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Ben Blasingame; children, Shalako King (Brad), Amy Gable (Jimmy), Bonnie Drake (Tad), and Jorja Farris; siblings, Peggy Word (Barry) Ricky Lyell (Elaine), and Nathan Lyell (Cindy); sister-in-law, Bonetha Massengale (Rob); brother-in-law, Ernest Blasingame; grandchildren, Sydney King, Molly King, Faith Smith, Justin Landers, Raylee Drake, Autumn Gable, Jamey Gable, and Zacary Harris; great grandchildren, Zariah Harris and Levi Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Yvlette Rushing Berryman, 88, Muscle Shoals, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Mark Parris officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens, Tuscumbia.
Yvlette was a member of Leighton United Methodist Church. She was a retired elementary education teacher and previously served as a Leighton Public Library Board member for many years. She was a member of Teachers Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma. Yvlette was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Lois Rushing; sisters, Brenda Young and Debra McCary; and granddaughter, Rozalyn Liston.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Berryman; children, Felicia Smith (Kelly), Jim Berryman (Stacy), Mary Brice (Tom), John Berryman, and Suzie Berryman; grandchildren, Rush Alexander, Kaylyn Brimlow (Scott), Ashtyn Hutchins (Stephan), Roy Berryman (Maranda), Holly Backe (Tommy), Haley Rohling (Lane), Calvin Berryman, Joshua Brice, Allie Brice, John Thomas Brice, Joey Wilbanks, Savanna Stanfield (Seth), and Mary Hanna Wilbanks; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Linda Sue Whittle McAnally, 75, Ellenton, FL, formerly of Tuscumbia, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Linda was a member of Our Lady of the Shoals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bernice Whittle, and brothers, James Whittle and Russell Whittle.
Linda is survived by her husband, Thomas A. McAnally; children, James Tidwell (Teresa), Jerrold Tidwell (Tim), and Amy Jean McAnally (Jeff); siblings, Pat Mitchell (Billy), Donnie Whittle (Vicki), Steve Whittle (Susan), and Richard Whittle (Shirley); grandchildren, Amber Boyd (Donald), Katlyn Tidwell, and Danny Tidwell; and her beloved cat, Gibson.

Brynda Sue Johnson, 84, of Cherokee, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 10 am until 12 pm at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Wade Wallace officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hester Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
Brynda was a registered nurse for over 40 years, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Billy” William Johnson; son, Gregory “Scotty” Johnson; parents, Rex and Pauline Rutherford; and sister, Barbara Ann Prather.
Brynda is survived by her children, Theresa Diane McWilliams (Bryan), Charla “Susy” Susette Nichelson (Keith), and William “Brad” Bradley Johnson (Tallie); sister, Norma Faye Metzler; and grandsons, Jordan and Josh Nichelson, Will and Tanner Johnson, and Tucker McWilliams.
The family expresses a special thanks to Hospitality House Personal Care, especially Minnie Rupledge, Chasity Alley, and Debbie Melton, Gentiva Hospice nurses, Jessica and Brittany, and her caregivers, Lyndsey and Britney.

Jessie Mae Winter King, 95, Tuscumbia, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Friday, August 30, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, beginning at 11:00 with Bro. Danny Stanford and Bro. Jacob Fleming officiating. Mrs. King will lie in state one hour prior to the start of the service. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Jessie was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, Pastor Malcolm Thomas King; parents, Austin and Nancy Ann Winter; siblings, Lily Prater, Louis Winter, Annie Lou Askew, Leonard Winter, Joe Dalton Winter, Sidney Winter, and Robert Winter; and grandson, Jacob King.
Jessie is survived by five sons, Wayne (Barbara), Harold (Carol), David (Carolyn), Danny (Diane), and Dalton (Chastity); one daughter, Connie Scogin (Jackie); fifteen grandchildren, Michelle, Wesley, Tammy, Darryl, Amy, Mack, Jessica, Rebekah, Jennifer, Jonathan, Danielle, Jordan, Blaine, Logan, and Gavin; thirty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Viall and Marjorie Glass; and a beloved host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wesley, Darryl, Mack, Logan, and Gavin King, Jonathan and Jordan Scogin, and Gage McCormack.

Charles Howard Lamon
Charles Howard Lamon (Sam) passed away peacefully on Monday August 26th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Paden Lamon; and his children, Jeffrey Howard Lamon and Suzanne Lamon Browning (Jerry); sisters, Cathy Lamon Crosswhite and Debra Elaine Lamon; and his four granddaughters, Paden Browning Majure (Christopher), Allyn Elizabeth Browning, Alexia ‘Lexi’ Faith Lamon, and Madison Grace Lamon. He is also survived by his niece, Susan Crosswhite Coke (Frankie); great-nephew, Blake Barber (Morgan); great-niece, Lauren Luedtke (Alex); and his beloved great-great-nephews, Owen, Luke and Ryan Barber, and great-great-niece, Lawson Luedtke.
Charles was born on September 27, 1946, to Marlin and Lorene Lamon of Jefferson County. Directly after proudly graduating from Deshler High School at the age of 18, Charles joined the Army National Guard. He was enrolled from February 1964 and retired as Command Sergeant Major in September of 2006. Charles received several awards for his service in the Alabama National Guard. Those awards include Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation. He served in many units: 167 Theater Support Command, Joint Force Headquarters- Homeland Security, 122 Corp Support Group, Headquarters 115 Signal Battalion, Company A 155 Signal Battalion, and Company B 115 Signal Battalion.
During his career, he worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company, completed the IBEW Apprenticeship Program, worked as an electrician at the Ford Motor Company, served Ford Motor Company as the UAW Bargain Chairman, Retired Command Sergeant Major in the Alabama National Guard, and ended his career at the IBEW 558 as Assistant Business Agent in which he retired in 2016.
Charles was an active member in the Tuscumbia community serving on the Tuscumbia City Council, coaching Jeff and Suzy’s ball teams, and the DHS Quarterback Club. Since his retirement, Charles enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling across the US with his wife and sisters, and loved the beach. He was a man of faith and family. He was known to many of his granddaughters’ friends as “Papa” and him and Judy never missed a sporting event, graduation, or special occasion. The family would like to sincerely thank all of Charles’s nurses at Helen Keller Hospital, Dr. Heaton and his staff, Dr. Adam Isbell and his staff, and the staff at Davita Dialysis of Sheffield.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, from noon until 2:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church of Tuscumbia. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Alan Beasley and Barrett Long officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
