Tuscumbia businesses to offer discount card

Patrons who make a purchase at one of a number of businesses in downtown Tuscumbia may soon have incentives to shop around a little more in the area.

Participating businesses will soon offer a discount card that will offer various benefits depending on the store it is used in.

For example, if you make a purchase in Basse Trading Company, you will receive a card with a list of other participating businesses.

A customer could then take said card to another business, like Kingpin’s, and get a discount or possibly even a free item if they make a purchase there.

“We are trying to figure out what works and ways to help each other as fellow business owners,” said Katie Logan, who owns Basse. “Kevin Johnson, who owns Kingpin’s, came up with the idea. If someone buys something at a participating business, they will get a free discount card that is good for 30 days.”

Logan said she feels the discount card will help the businesses in downtown Tuscumbia come together and help each other out, as well as drawing more customers to the area.

So far, 10 businesses in the area have pledged support for the idea, with the cards expected to be available within the next week or so.

While some athletic teams from local schools sell similar items, Logan said the idea is for these business discount cards to offer different benefits.

“I don’t know why we have never thought of something like this before,” Logan said.
