Charles Edward James Sr., 85

Charles Edward James, Sr. 85, Muscle Shoals, passed away on Sunday May 12, 2024. Visitation will be Friday, May 17, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Valley Grove Baptist Church, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow at the church with Greg Beasley and Ted Vafeas officiating. Interment will be in Hatton Baptist Cemetery.

Bro. Charlie was a veteran of the US Army National Guard. He served as Pastor at several Baptist churches in his community over his lifetime. Bro. Charlie was Pastor Emeritus at Valley Grove Baptist Church, and served for two terms, totaling twenty-one years, at Hatton Baptist Church. He also served at Crooked Oak Baptist, North Highlands Baptist, North Village Baptist, and Washington Park Baptist churches. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy James.

Bro. Charlie is survived by his wife, Jean James; children, Chuck James (Beverly) and Sharna Logan (Eric); former in-laws, Paloma James and Anthony Pace; brother, Clifford James; grandchildren, Courtney Vignuli (Michael), Amy Beth Hall (Ryan), José James, and Kenedi Pace; bonus grandchildren, Nikkole Austin, Erica Conley (Jordan), and Bailey Logan (Tasha); great-grandchildren, Julian Vignuli, Logan Conley, Nora Conley, Mila Hall, Giovanni Vignuli, Tyler Cook, and Troy Cook.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

 

Matthew Alan Thompson, 37

Matthew Alan Thompson, 37, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024. There will be a graveside service on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield. Larry Kilpatrick will officiate the service.

Matthew was a lifelong resident of the Shoals. He was a Universal Technical Institute Certified Mechanic, an avid arrowhead collector, and a member of the Church of Christ.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Paul Staggers.

He is survived by his children, Chase Thompson and Charlee Ann Thompson; parents, Teddy and Amy Schell and David Ray Thompson; brothers, Brian Thompson, Brad Thompson, Teddy Schell; sister, Courtney Warden; and grandmother, Bettye Ann Staggers.

Pallbearers will be Donny Cansler, Roger Duckworth, Mike Goodwin, and John Wayne Bedwell.

 

Kenneth E. Lamp, 84

Kenneth E. Lamp passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Morrison Funeral Home in Cherokee is directing. There will be no service available at this time.

 

Patricia Ellen Street, 81

Patricia Ellen Street Crittenden 81, passed away on May 9, 2024.  after a long hard battle with multiple illnesses. She was born on November 20, 1942 in Mobile Alabama. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Tuscumbia surrounded by family.

She was a 1960 graduate of Mars Hill Bible School. She grew up in Tuscumbia and lived in Alabama most of her life. She was a member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ and loved her Christian church family. Her favorite hymn was Amazing Grace and her favorite Bible verses were the Lord’s Prayer, Matthew 6:9-13 and Psalm 23.  Her working career spanned many years and unique jobs.  She was known for her kind, caring and comforting soul and because of her we have the hearts of a lion and the love of family.  She was never judgmental and provided the best advice to ease any of life’s anxieties. The family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing.

Our beloved mother was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley of 42 years; her parents Jesse Newton Street and Katie Mae Broughton Street; and her sister Peggy Baldwin.  Survivors include her children, Stan Crittenden, Jr., Cheryl (Blake) Crittenden Sherrod, Robert Crittenden, and George (Emily) Crittenden; Grandchildren, Nick (Peyton) Sherrod, Alex Sherrod, Andrew Crittenden; and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 2:00 at Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia. Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.   In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, the family asks that you consider donations to the American Cancer Society, the Dementia Society of America or the National Kidney Foundation.

 

James Thomas Holt Sr., 73

James Thomas Holt, Sr. passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Cherokee, Alabama. There will be a private family service at a later date.

James was a chaplain in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his father, George Wilson Holt, and mother, Tommy Lou Holt.

James is survived by his wife, Sandra Ellen Holt; daughter, Elizabeth “Kat” Holt; sons, James Thomas Holt, Jr., Jedediah Ahn Holt, Harold Douglas Wayne Holt; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
